Bamenda, Cameroon: Archbishop Cornelius Esua Speaks out on Killing of Seminarian

For the first time since the brutal killing by on October 4 of first year seminarian Gerard Anjiangwe at St Therese’s parish in Bamessing, Archbishop Cornelius Fontem Esua of Bamenda, Cameroon, has spoken publicly of the tragic event.

According to the statement released by the archbishop Gerard Anjiangwe was killed in cold blood by the army close to the church where he had remained behind after Mass to prepare for next day’s liturgy with a number of other parishioners. The soldiers’ violence was totally unprovoked.

La Croix International quotes the Archbishop as saying: “We are launching an appeal to all Christians at this moment of devastation to pray for the repose of his soul and also for Mr Stephen Akiata and Comfort Akiata, his parents, who are his whole family as Gérard was an only child.”
