The jubilee mass was presided by the diocesan Bishop of Brixen, Ivo Muser. He was delighted to welcome the Mill Hillers, their supporters, benefactors and friends. He felt proud that the first house in a German country was that in Brixen. Based on the 1st chapter of St Matthew’s gospel he spoke of our patron saint “as the man who remains silent, but always acts in responsibility. He does what the angel requests of him. To be just means to hear the right things and to act, to be honest, thoroughly reliable and integer towards God and of what others need. When we speak of mission in our days, then it must be clear to us: Mission is not a peripheral phenomenon or an appendage. Mission is a task and the Church’s right to exist… To be a Christian cannot be delegated.” Bishop Ivo cites Pope Francis: “Christians who are not missionaries are no Christians at all. Where there are no Christians any more, there grows up an unchristian society.”

Concluding his sermon, Bishop Ivo thanked the MHM for their missionary work in the world and especially in the diocese. He hopes that people in the diocese become missionary minded ever more. “We are not to consider us as the focus of the world!” He hopes that there are evermore women and men who live the joy of the gospel, who “love and serve”.

The solemn high mass was concelebrated with the members of the cathedral chapter, diocesan priests and members of religious congregations; in all about 28 priests. The “Neustifter male-voice choir” provided the music; there were also hymns sung by the congregations.
