A Requiem Mass for Fr Cosmas, was celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe parish at Adams Arcade, Nairobi. The celebration was well attended by the parents and family of Fr Cosmas, the Mill Hill family and many other members of religious groups together with parishioners.
Bishop Andrew Nkea of Mamfe , Cameroon was present. His presence at the Mass was a powerful sign of his solidarity with the grieving family of Cosmas, the Mill Hill family and indeed the whole congregation.
After the Mass which was led by Bishop David Kamau the Auxiliary Bishop of Archdiocese of Nairobi, Bishop Nkea comforted the family and the congregation by reminding them that Fr Cosmas paid the price of missionary witness with his life. The shedding of his blood, though painful, was not for nothing, but a powerful witness of his missionary commitment to work with the weak and defenceless. He also likened his death to a mustard seed planted to bring hope and change to the ongoing Anglophone Crisis.
The Mill Hill students of the Second of Formation animated the simple but lively and solemn liturgy.
After the Eucharist, the congregation went to the Mill Hill Guest House for refreshments.
Tomorrow, Wednesday 5th of December, the mortal remains will be moved to Kisii, the home Diocese of Fr. Cosmas, where he will be buried on Thursday, the 6th of December!
