Sixty years of faithfulness, perseverance, love and service. This is how the 60 years of missionary priesthood of Fr Bill McAvoy was described by Bernard, the homilist in Bill's jubilee…

UNIDENTICAL TWINS TURN TWENTY – THE DUO FROM LUO
Fr Adolf Pöll mhm is commonly known as ‘Alleluia’ but in Witu the locals call him “Father Wetu” (Our priest). He is known for his whistling and jolly greetings. Everywhere we passed people knew him so well and this is significant owing to the fact that the majority of the locals are Muslims; they admire him, they love him and they adore him. Fr. Adolf too cares about them, loves them and adores them. Adolf doesn’t like to be at the centre of attention/celebration, so at his golden jubilee celebrations, there were three other celebrations actually meant to drown his own big day.
The Irish Region celebrates its jubilarians this year on Sunday July 10th in Dartry House, Dublin.
Despite it being a chilly and windy morning in Malindi, many Christians of Kisumu Ndogo Parish and the neighbouring parishes started arriving very early to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Fr. Albert Buijs mhm and 150 years of Mill Hill Missionaries. It was truly an African celebration with plenty of dance, singing and good Coastal delicacies. Various visitors too graced the occasion; Fr. Albert's family members and friends who had come from The Netherlands, diocesan priests, Mill Hill sisters and fathers/brothers.
Grateful to God, I recently celebrated the golden jubilee of missionary priesthood on Saturday 9th July and have been kindly reminded, in a congratulatory letter from the General Council, of what I have officially been doing over these years in our Society. But I can’t help wondering if what I was commended for would also be endorsed by God who alone knows how far any of us have really responded over all these years to the graces of the Holy Spirit which were offered to us in order to become channels of His mercy and love for the people we were sent to serve in various parts of the world. But what are fifty years of service in God’s sight ? We pray in the words of Psalm 89(90), ‘O Lord…to your eyes a thousand years are like yesterday, come and gone, no more than a watch in the night…Make us know the shortness of our life that we may gain wisdom of heart.’
On a fine, bright and sunny Sunday, 10th July 2016, jubilarians, brothers and guests met in a good spirit for the Jubilee Mass at 11 o’clock in the Chapel of the Missionshaus in Brixen. Hans Stampfer and Leonhard Wiedemayr celebrated their Diamond Jubilee, both of them having been ordained on the 8th of July 1956 in Mill Hill, almost exactly 60 years ago.
