Human rights abuses in the Philippines fail to escape scrutiny at UN forum
It has been announced in the Netherlands that Irish Columban missionary, Fr Shay Cullen is to be the recipient of the 2017 Martin Buber Award in recognition of his internationally acclaimed work on human rights undertaken through the PREDA Foundation which he established in the Philippines in 1974. He will be presented with the award in Kerkrade next November during the annual International Festival of Dialogue - EURIADE

In the run up to Palm Sunday lowly coconut palms are turned into "something worthy for the Lord" called palaspas in The Philppines. The tradition of weaving the palaspas from young coconut palm leaves, locally called ibus, dates back centuries.
Fifty years ago in the Parish of Santa Teresa de Avila in Casay, Anini-y, Antique, the Mill Hill Missionaries founded the Casay Credit Cooperative. The mission of this cooperative since its foundation is to help the local people of Casay to manage their limited resources and be of help to those who are most in need of financial assistance. Since its foundation, this cooperative is part of the life story of its members. Today, this institution is one of the strongest credit cooperatives in the province of Antique. On our celebration today, the members of Casay Credit Cooperative paid tribute to the Mill Hill Missionaries who have continued to support this venture. Our beloved Bishop de Wit MHM † was mentioned in most of the speeches.
The Feast of St Joseph was celebrated on the 20th of March 2017 at the MHM Formation House in Mandurriao, Iloilo City, Philippines. The celebration of the Holy Eucharist was presided by the Vicar General of San Jose de Antique, Rev. Fr. Ronnie Elemento.
The Mill Hill Missionaries in the Philippines together with MHM MEP students, Mensa Domini Sisters, and two priests from the Diocese of San Jose, Antique had a three day Grant Writing and Fundraising for Missionary Projects Workshop held at MHM Central House in Iloilo City. Fr. Jimmy Lindero, our GC-Asia, facilitated the workshop. He presented the suggested steps to be followed in writing grant project proposal and how to write one. He also introduced the participants on different possible project partners and funders and how to apply for grant to their organizations.
