From the Vatican News Service:
“He was a young priest fired with the missionary spirit, but death has snubbed him at a time we knew he had much still left to do in reaching out to lost souls,” Bishop Mairura told the Daily Nation.
Willem Klaver mhm in New York to Cardinal Dolan:
It is with great sadness in my heart that I ask for your prayers for the eternal rest of a young Mill Hill Missionary (33) from Kenya, Fr Cosmas Omboto Ondari, who was brutally killed last Wednesday in the English-speaking region of Cameroon in front of his church by the military (see Vatican news report below). Fr Cosmas was my student from 2008-2011 in the Mill Hill Formation House in Jinja, Uganda where he concluded his studies in philosophy and religious studies. He was a very gentle and peace loving person. He was ordained to the missionary priesthood only last year in March 2017 and got his first missionary appointment as a Mill Hill Father to the Diocese of Mamfe. The Mill Hill Fathers have been unsuccessful to collect the body of Fr Cosmas as the area is still very volatile with serious shooting taking place. We pray and hope that in the coming days it will be calm. Please, keep Fr Cosmas in your prayers and the people who are suffering in Cameroon. May eventually justice and peace prevail in the English-speaking region of Cameroon. Thanks so much for your support.
Faithfully in Christ,
Dear Father Willem,
Thank you for your email of Saturday, as somber as it was. My condolences to you and the entire community. Count on my prayers. I mentioned him by name at St. Patrick’s yesterday.
Fraternally in Christ,
+Timothy Cardinal Dolan
